Ted Stuckless Fine Arts & Driftwood Gallery

Nestled in an unassuming red and yellow house on Twillingate’s Main St., you’ll find the gallery and studio of amazing local painter Ted Stuckless. Born in Twillingate in 1938, Ted Stuckless is one of Newfoundland’s foremost painters, whose work appears in private and public collections around the world. A self-taught artist working in oils, pen, ink and wood, his stunning paintings depict iconic Newfoundland scenes past and present, and capture the essence of Newfoundland’s traditional way of life. Ted’s family has been in the region for generations, with his family home still located at the top of the hill on Stuckless Lane just steps away from the gallery. Get inspired by the beautiful paintings in his gallery, and pick out a special art print to take home. Prints come in various sizes and costs, and Ted kindly wraps up each piece with care for your travels home.

Scot’s Pencil Art Studio

A giant lobster trap marks the spot of another talented Twillingate artist’s gallery, Scot’s Pencil Art studio. Once a crab fisherman, Scot Lewis opened his own studio and gallery in 2018 showcasing his unique fine pencil art. Each original work takes 60 hours to complete and depicts iconic symbols of Newfoundland, from landscapes to wildlife. His prints come in various sizes (easy to pack away in a suitcase), and some even come in frames made from old lobster traps! The gallery also hosts creations by other local artists including exquisite hand-made carvings made from moose bone, ornaments made of sand from local beaches, and delicious homemade jams and jellies.

Twillingate Museum and Craft Shop

In operation since 1973, the Twillingate Museum and Craft Shop is located in the former Anglican Church Rectory and features rooms elegantly furnished in the style of that period. It has an extensive collection of family histories, historical photographs, as well as Beothuk and Maritime artifacts. The Twillingate Museum promotes traditional arts and crafts and sells a variety of locally made handicrafts, many hand-made by artisans from Twillingate. Browse through a beautiful selection of hand-made quilts, Labradorite Jewelry, jams and syrups, Mummer Dolls, soapstone carvings and delicate knits.

Artisan Market Twillingate

Showcasing over 100 artisans from across the province, the Artisan Market is a great place to help support local. Established by sisters Joelle and Mandi, the duo opened the Artisan Market in their hometown of Twillingate, driven by their passion to help support the local economy and arts community. You’ll find a wide variety of items for sale including traditional Newfoundland quilts, hand-woven tea towels, jewelry and beautiful knits. They also have an extensive selection of original art, unique pottery, as well as locally-roasted coffee and heavenly bath and body products. One of our favourite items is the collection nautical bowls and trivets made from reclaimed lobster fishing rope by artist Joelle Sunshine; the perfect east coast touch to add to any home.

Lightkeeper’s Fudgery and Gift Shop

Any visit to the Long Point Lighthouse warrants a stop at the Lightkeeper’s Fudgery and Gift Shop. This small, family-owned business has been welcoming visitors to the most iconic lighthouse in the region for years. Indulge in over twenty-eight flavours of creamy gourmet fudge; a perfect pre or post hike snack. If you’re visiting in the summer months, treat yourself in their full-service ice cream shop which serves up cones piled high with scoops of hard ice cream (in over 30+ flavours), or soft served spiraled high in a cup. They also offer frozen yogurt blended with real fruit, one of our favourite treats on a warm summer afternoon, as well as ice cream sandwiches made with fresh-baked cookies. Their onsite giftshop is well stocked with local handmade crafts, knitted goods, classic salt water taffy and a large selection of custom Twillingate branded souvenirs and clothing. They pride themselves on sourcing unique souvenirs, and their store is the only provider in Twillingate of a line of stunning handcrafted pottery with a distinct Newfoundland flair.

Auk Island Winery

Auk Island Winery is a unique winery located on South Twillingate Island which produces over 20 varieties of wine made from local, handpicked berries and iceberg water. They are not only known for their unique berry-based wines, but also for the imaginative and cheeky names of their vintages. After a wine tasting inside, pick up a few bottles of your favourite like Krooked Cod, Funky Puffin, 3 Sheets to the Wind, Frig Off, Moose Joose or Kiss Me Arse. While they specialize in wine, they also have a well-stocked gift shop with a wide selection of clothing, knit items, kitchenware, classic souvenirs and locally made treasures.

Blue Barrel Gallery Café

Nestled in a cozy and colourful restored heritage building, the Blue Barrel Gallery and Café is a perfect place for a morning cappuccino, and a great place to shop in Twillingate. Located across from the Anchor Inn Hotel, they are a mainstay for home baked goods, specialty coffee and beautiful art. Browse a selection of hand-made pottery, original art pieces by Newfoundland artists, and art reproductions on canvas and cards. A selection of artisan culinary items is also on offer, including hand-printed aprons, Newfoundland Beer Vinegar, and Newfoundland Sea Salt.

Crow’s Nest Café

Known as one of the go-to café in Twillingate for fresh baked goods, satisfying lunches and delicious fresh brewed coffee, the Crow’s Nest Café also has a great selection of unique local art for sale. Choose from beautiful prints, paintings on canvas, framed drawings, and art cards all depicting the iconic sites of the island, plus elegant jewelry and tasty Newfoundland chocolate.
